Bioenergy resources
New Zealand has a wide range of biomass resources that can potentially be used for energy production. These resources include woody residues and purpose-grown agricultural crops, such as oilseed rape. Various types of municipal, industrial and agricultural waste, like dairy effluent or sewage, can also be converted into energy.
This website focuses on woody residues, which represent the greatest volume of biomass resources in New Zealand. Most of this woody residue comes from production forests and wood processing facilities located throughout the country. These residues can be used for producing heat, electricity and, potentially, fuel for transportation.
